Dr. Sangmin Nam

Dr. Sangmin Nam is the Director of the Environment and Development Division at ESCAP. He has a background in academia and policy development, contributing to international efforts on climate change.

Dr. William Yu

Founder & Chief Executive Officer, World Green Organisation

Dr. William Yu is the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of World Green Organisation (WGO). Dr. Yu is an energy economist and climate professional by training and completed his PhD at the University of Cambridge. He also earned an Executive MBA degree from the Thunderbird School of Global Management, Arizona State University in the U.S. Additionally, Dr. Yu had gained valuable regional management experience by working at US multinationals and a financial institution. Dr. Yu is currently the Adjunct Professor of several local and overseas universities.

Currently, Dr. Yu is the ESBN Task Force Member of The Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) of United Nations. Dr. Yu sits in the Steering Committee of FOOD-CO of the Social Innovation and Entrepreneurship Development Fund. He also serves in the working group of Sustainability Charter, Hong Kong and Malmo, Sweden, and is a Faculty of The Hong Kong Green Building Council. Dr. Yu belongs to the Air Quality Objectives Review Working Group of HK Environmental Protection Department, and is a Member of the Appeal Board Panel, Town Planning as well as Sustainable Development Council, HK SAR Government.

Dr. Yu has served as Deputy Chairman of Final Judging Panel of Smart Living Award and Head Assessor in Smart Healthcare Stream, The Hong Kong ICT Awards. He is the Chairman of the Judging Panel of BDO ESG Awards. He advises investment banks and public accounting firms on Sustainable Investing and ESG reporting, respectively. Dr. Yu is also appointed as an Independent Non-Executive Director of a publicly listed company.

Mr. Terry Yung

Mr. Terry Yung is the Chief Investment Officer of BOC Group Life Assurance Company Limited (“BOC Life”), responsible for corporate investment strategy and management of the company’s investment portfolios.

Terry has over 25 years of experience in the insurance and investment banking industry. Prior to joining BOC Life, Terry was the Chief Investment Officer at Hang Seng Insurance Company Limited, spearheaded the company’s MPF business and investment portfolios.

Terry is a qualified actuary. He is a current committee member of the Actuarial Society of Hong Kong’s Pension and Employee Benefits Committee. Terry is a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries. He graduated from the University of Hong Kong with a Bachelor degree in Actuarial Science.

Mr. Alexander Chan

Head of ESG, Asia Pacific Invesco

Alexander Chan is Invesco’s Head of ESG, Asia Pacific based in Hong Kong. He works with investment and product teams to identify ESG & impact investment opportunities and contributes to building ESG strategies and industry initiatives in the region. He also serves as a co-chair of HKGFA’s Sustainability-related Disclosures, Policy & Standards Working Group. Prior to joining Invesco, Alexander was the Co-Director of Nan Fung Group’s The Mills Fabrica, a global platform focusing on ESG & impact investing in consumer industries. Previously, Alexander also worked for Hillhouse Capital, Bain & Company’s financial investors & private equity group and UK Cabinet Office’s Social Investment team.

Alexander holds a BEng from University of Hong Kong, a MPP from University of Oxford and a Masters of global affairs from Tsinghua University, where he was a Schwarzman Scholar. He holds a CFA Institute Certificate in ESG Investing and EFFAS Certified ESG Analyst® (CESGA).

Dr. Guo Peiyuan

Dr. Guo Peiyuan, who holds a Ph.D. in Management from Tsinghua University, is the Chairman of SynTao Green Finance. Dr. Guo is a renowned expert in corporate social responsibility, green finance and responsible investment. He has over two decades of research and experience in responsible investment. Dr. Guo founded China Sustainable Investment Forum (China SIF) in 2012 that aims to promote ESG development in China and facilitate international exchange.

Dr. Guo is a committee member China Green Finance Committee, a member of the China Association for Public Companies (CAPCO), a member of ESG Committee of the Insurance Asset Management Association of China (IAMAC), a member of the Energy Conservation and Emission Reduction Certification Committee of China National Accreditation Service for Conformity Assessment (CNAS), and a member of expert group in China for ISO Sustainable Finance standards. He serves as the China advisor to the UNEP Finance Initiative, a member of the advisory group on sustainability reporting for International Standards of Accounting and Reporting (ISAR) in the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), and a board member of the Asia Investor Group on Climate Change (AIGCC).

Dr. Guo Peiyuan has extensive overseas ESG policy consulting experience and has been invited to provide green finance related advisory and training services to the Indonesian Ministry of Finance, the State Securities Commission of Vietnam, the Central Bank of Sri Lanka, the Reserve Bank of Fiji, the Union of Banks of Kyrgyzstan and the VEB.RF.

Mr. Thomas Gnocchi

Head of the European Union Office to Hong Kong and Macao

Thomas Gnocchi started his assignment as Head of the EU Office to Hong Kong and Macao on 1st September 2020. Prior to that, he was Deputy Head of Division for Japan, Korea, Australia, New Zealand and the Pacific and Deputy Head of Division for Afghanistan and Pakistan in the European External Action Service in Brussels. He served as Deputy Head of Office and Head of the Political, Economic and European Integration Section at the EU Office in Kosovo between 2012 and 2017 and as Head of the Political and Information Section at the Delegation of the European Union to Serbia between 2008 and 2012. Between 2003 and 2008, he worked at the European Commission in Brussels as desk officer for a number of Asian countries including Cambodia, Indonesia, Thailand, Timor Leste and Vietnam. From 1994 to 1996 and from 2001 to 2003 he was posted in Beijing, P.R. China and between 1996 and 2000 he served in the Delegation of the European Commission to Vietnam. Thomas was educated at the London School of Economics, Yale University and Tianjin University P.R. China. His native languages are Italian and English and he also speaks French, Chinese and some Serbian.

Mr. Tad Kimura

After graduating from graduate school of Tokyo University, started to work for Deloitte as IPO consultant. Also on the board as director of Japanese startups and have involved 5 of them to be listed on the Tokyo Stock Exchange market. Personally invested in global startups and eventually 10 of them are succeeded in Exits (8 were acquired and 2 were listed on NASDAQ).

In 2008, founded addlight Inc. and now providing business incubation/acceleration program focused on Climate Tech inside/outside Japan.

Mr. Jean-Sebastien Jacquetin

Dr. Allinnettes Adigue

Dr. Allinnettes Go Adigue is the Head of the ASEAN Regional Hub of the Global Reporting Initiative.  As Head of GRI’s ASEAN Hub, Ally is tasked to promote the practice of sustainability reporting across Southeast Asia by working with relevant stakeholders to create a conducive policy environment for sustainable business practices, promote wider adoption of sustainability reporting and build the capacity of organisations in sustainability reporting.

A lifelong learner and a global citizen, Ally has lived in 3 continents in the past 19 years. Prior to GRI, Ally has previously worked for the academe, and both the public and private sectors.  While working on her PhD, she worked as a graduate research assistant in the field of Climate Change Policy and Economics. She also worked in a retail electricity company in Singapore and for the Office of the President of the Philippines.  Ally earned her PhD on Public Policy from the Crawford School of Public Policy at the Australian National University in 2017.  She has two Masters degrees: one in Development Studies from the Institute of Social Studies, Erasmus University, The Netherlands; and another in Public Administration from the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy in Singapore. She also has Bachelor’s degrees in Law and Political Science.

Mr. Jiahui Lu

Mr. Jiahui Lu is the Assistant Vice President at Towngas Smart Energy in charge of M&A activities. He is also the General Manager of Towngas Green Power dedicated to power trading and vice GM of Towngas Carbon for carbon trading. He obtained his bachelor’s degree in Energy from Zhejiang University in China. He then pursued a master’s degree in Sustainable Energy at the KTH Royal Institute of Technology in Sweden.

Mr. Lu has extensive experience in the low-carbon industry, both domestically and internationally. He has led or participated in numerous green carbon reduction projects worldwide, such as the World Bank’s MENA KIP. Furthermore, he has previously worked for Electricité de France (EDF), ENGIE in France, and the Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems (Fraunhofer ISE) in Germany.

Prof. Shauhrat S. Chopra

 

Prof. Shauhrat S. Chopra received his PhD in Civil and Environmental Engineering from the Swanson School of Engineering at the University of Pittsburgh, USA. His data-driven research is focused on designing indicators for sustainability and resilience of the built environment. Research from his group aims to support decision-making for building a socially just and a sustainable future—a future which is not only environmentally and economically feasible but also resilient.

Mr. Wilson Tang is the Chief Executive of BOC Group Life Assurance Company Limited (“BOC Life”) responsible for driving the business roadmap as well as the growth strategy for the company. Wilson has over 30 years of experience in the insurance industry and held various leadership positions. Prior to joining BOC Life, Wilson was the Head of Insurance at Hang Seng Bank, CEO and Director of Hang Seng Insurance Company Limited where he led life insurance, general insurance, medical insurance and MPF businesses. While working at HSBC Insurance in China, he took up the positions as Chief Actuary, Head of Investment, Director and Chairman of Asset and Liabilities Committee.

He is a current non-official member of the Industry Advisory Committee on Long Term Business to Insurance Authority, the Chairman of Employers’ Federation of Hong Kong (Insurance Group), the member of the Hong Kong Management Association Insurance Management Committee, as well as the committee member of the 2021 Election Committee Subsector Ordinary Election (Insurance).

Wilson is a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries. He graduated from University of Manitoba with a Master of Sciences Degree in Actuarial Mathematics.

Dr. Patrick Lau

Dr Patrick Lau has been Deputy Executive Director of the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) since April 2019. In this role, he creates opportunities and facilitates deals for Hong Kong enterprises. Dr Lau oversees specifically the HKTDC’s 50 offices worldwide, external relations, corporate communications and marketing, and is responsible for the overall management of HKTDC’s anchor conferences and selected fairs as well as international and Mainland missions and promotional campaigns.

Moreover, Dr Lau has forged numerous strategic partnerships for the HKTDC and spearheads the T-box (Transformation Sandbox) programme, GoGBA one-stop platform and Belt and Road deal-making. He is a thought leader in ESG, Web3.0 and digital economy, proactively helping SMEs to get ahead in these areas.

Prior to the HKTDC, Dr Lau specialised in mergers and acquisitions (M&A) and investments, and closed many significant deals in the region. Recognised as a seasoned banker and dealmaker, he started working in Hong Kong in 2001 firstly as a corporate lawyer at international law firms Baker McKenzie and Skadden Arps, then as an investment banker at UBS and China Construction Bank (CCB) International, where he held progressively senior posts until Managing Director, Head of M&A and Assistant Head of Investment Bank. From 2015 to 2018, Dr Lau was Director of Investments at sovereign wealth fund Khazanah, and Board Director and Investment Committee Member at biotech and life science private equity fund Xeraya.

Dr Lau graduated with a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery, and Bachelor of Laws with first class honours from Monash University in Melbourne, where he attended medical school and law school concurrently. He has been admitted as an advocate or solicitor in Hong Kong, Australia, England, Wales and Malaysia. He was Honorary Senior Lecturer in Business Law at Monash University and part-time Lecturer at the Law Faculty of the University of Hong Kong.

Professor Weihong Li, Ph.D., is currently an Assistant Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering and the Director of the Multiscale Energy Transport Laboratory at City University of Hong Kong. He also holds a position as an Adjunct Professor at the Academy of Innovation of City University of Hong Kong. Professor Li serves as the Chief Scientist at Chunhua Hydrogen Energy Technology (Hunan) Co., Ltd., and is a co-founder and Chief Scientist of ZGH Ltd. He earned his bachelor’s degree (2013) and Ph.D. (2018) from the Department of Thermal Engineering and the Department of Energy and Power Engineering at Tsinghua University, respectively. From 2018 to 2019, Dr. Li was a Research Fellow at the James Watt School of Engineering at the University of Glasgow, UK. From 2019 to 2021, he served as a Research Assistant Professor in the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, where he was also a Junior Fellow at the Jockey Club Institute for Advanced Study.

In 2022, Professor Li founded the Multiscale Energy Transport Laboratory at City University of Hong Kong, which comprises nearly twenty postdoctoral and doctoral researchers. The lab focuses on research areas such as hydrogen production via water electrolysis catalysts and mass transfer, hydrogen production through thermal cracking, micro/nano interface heat and mass transfer, and efficient solar energy utilization.

Ms. Olivia To

Olivia To is Senior Vice President (Carbon Neutrality)Technology, Innovation and Entrepreneurship at Invest Hong Kong, the government department responsible for attracting and facilitating foreign direct investment into Hong Kong. She is a sustainability professional specializing in climate change and green technology.

She is an engineer by training, certified carbon auditor, carbon trader and WELL AP. In her previous role at the Environmental Protection Department of HKSARG, she worked with directorates to prepare Hong Kong’s Climate Action Plan 2050 and carbon accounting. 

She holds a master’s degree in environmental engineering and management from the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology and a bachelor’s degree in Global Environmental Studies from the Education University of Hong Kong. She also serves as a Committee Member of the Energy Institute. As a rescue diver, she continues her passion in marine conservation in leisure time.
